Grandmother's Candy Tin

These photos from a bygone era are part of a much larger collection that my grandmother, Bessie Robbins, kept in a tin canister made originally to hold candy.  They are mostly family photos, though some are of a more general interest. No one knows whether this is a tintype of a long distant relative or simply kept because it was a tintype.

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a program established in 1933 by the Roosevelt administration to provide work and vocational training for young men. My uncle, Harry Robbins, joined up and worked at a CCC camp in London, Kentucky, where this photo was taken.

The CCC camps were run by the War Department (i.e., the Department of Defense).  The photo shows three U.S. army captains at the London, Kentucky, camp.

Yet another view of the London CCC camp.
